I’m a bit confused about Galtaji Temple/ Monkey Temple, Is it a Hindu pilgrimage or a residence of hundreds of monkeys? Actually, it is both a sacred temple devoted to Hanuman Ji a god of monkeys and also houses hundreds of monkeys in its complex.
A Monkey temple is situated 10 km away from Jaipur city built in a mountain pass of Aravalli hills. This magnificent temple is built by a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II name Diwan Rao Kriparam. This 16th-century monkey temple was built by using pink sandstones in palace style architecture. The temple complex has seven sacred water tanks or ‘kunds’ which filled by natural fresh water spring. It’s a belief that these kunds are never getting dry. ‘Galta kund’ is the holiest kund among all the kunds.
History
The people of Jaipur rely on the story of the temple that, A saint’s
name Galav spent all his life here and did meditation and penance for
100 years. In result of which, the God appears and blessed him that this
place will always remain replete with an abundance of water.
Special Attraction
Apart
from monkeys, the other major attraction of the Galtaji temple is its
astonishing architecture. This temple was constructed in a Rajasthani
Rajput style of architecture having long straight halls, perched
balconies, a lofty fort, rounded rooftops, lush green surroundings, and a
mesmerizing glance of the city from the hilltop.Best Time To Visit
Jaipur is hot & humid in the summers, that’s why the month of November to February month is the perfect time to visit the monkey temple. People come here in mass on the day of ‘Makar Sankranti’ held in January and take a dip in the holy tank.Although the visiting time of the temple is from sunrise to sunset, 5:00 am to 9:00 pm, but the best time is at the time of sunset. This is the perfect place to see the fascinating sunset and an amazing view of the pink city.
